SIKE

Back in the very early 1990s I wrote this extended series of notes to document the concepts about psychology we were developing at the time. Ultimately, we moved beyond many of these, yet they provide a map of where our thinking was at the time and, hence, how we eventually managed to arrive at the final version of Mental Relativity.

Inequity

Internal Perspective
External Perspective of same inequity

Internal perspective will find inequity to be outside of self in observation.

Inequity is always perceived in the side that divides and that the methodology of that side will be employed to determine thecourse of action or state of being required to bring inequity into balance.

From external perspective -- the inequity can be from inside or outside.

If inequity is truly outside (external perspective), that person has no unresolvable problems.

EXTERNAL POV -- If the problem is really inside, the problems is going to be on the multiplying side. If it is on the multiplying side, it will be invisible to the individual.

Individual has no tools for fixing and can't see it because that side is intrinsically unclear.

INTERNAL POV -- So, he perceives the inequity as outside himself and employs external techniques to solve the inequity.

He cannot solve the inequity because the problem is internal -- creates an apparent dilemma.

SIDE NOTE -- Inequity, on the multiplying side, cannot exist independently of the dividing side because all four elements are self modifying.

The person that uses t/k as Conscious problem solving -- he is constantly altering his state of being by the process of Reasoning and Reason.

For this person, inequity on the multiplying side means that he has not progressed through the necessary steps of Reasoning and Reason to create a state of being on the multiplying side that is desired. So, although that individual perceives in sub-conscious state of being as a constant, and feels he has no ability to alter it, in truth he simply cannot alter it directly, but is continually altering it indirectly.

A DOer must do things to become.

A BEer must become things to do.

Each on will be able to deal with problems directly and indirectly. Left minded can deal with probloems of the outside universe directly, but must deal with internal problems (state of being) indirectly. Vice versa for the Right Minded.

The crucial factor is that there are no inequities that can be labeled internal or external. Inequities only exist BETWEEN the two sides of the equation.

From the internal perspective, the TK side will always look like the outside universe from both Left and Right Minds, and the AD side will always look like self.

From the external perspective, it is the opposite. The Thought & Knowledge side will always look like self, and the Desire & Ability side will look like the outside universe.

From the inside perspective, the Left mind will think it has a clear idea of the universe because it can consciously ponder T & K, but its sense of self will always be obscure.

Left minded will seek to perceive inequity to be in the TK side (external universe), so he will have the tools to address the problem. This is actually a good thing, because to consciously arrive at considered decisions, one must represent the inequity as existing in the side that one can consciously address. If they are unwilling to change the outside universe to remove the inequity, their only other option is to change their self. This is very difficult because the left minded individual does not have the tools to easily change their state of being. If they are unable to change their self, they will be faced with a dilemma.

For the Right Minded person, they will seek to place the inequity in their sense of self which exists at the conscious level, so that they may consciously consider the problem. If they are unwilling to change themselves to what they must be in order to remove the inequity, their only other option is to change the outside universe to match themselves. If they are unable to do that, they will be faced with a dilemma.

Every dilemma has four possibilities: Instigate change to remove the inequity, Accept the inequity, or avoid making a decision altogether. The last possibility is that the inequity will resolve itself, but this is completely out of one's control.

NEED and SHOULD

Through the passage of time, observation will continually alter in the outside universe, and knowledge and thought will continue to mutually alter on the inside universe. either one of these factors will create an inequity in the equation, except in that rare instance when they are both altering in the same direction and same rate simultaneously.

In all other scenarios, the passage of time will create inequity between the left and right sides of the equation. Once an inequity exists it can only be eliminated by bringing the equation back into balance through changes in one side, the other, or both.

Since, from the both the inside and outside perspectives, one side of the equation or the other will represent self and the remaining side will represent the outside universe (observation), either self or universe of both must change to resolve inequity.

If the change in self and or universe is insufficient to resolve the inequity, some inequity will remain. When inequity exists that the combination of change in self and universe cannot resolve, Need and Should exist.

For a left minded individual, he will percieve this unresolved inequity (or Need) as the difference between what he wants and what he can achieve.

For the Right Minded individual, he will perceive this unresolved inequity (Should) as the difference between what he can do and what they want.

By our definitions, Need and Should appear to be the inverse of each other. From an internal perspective, this is correct. But from the outside perspective, the Left Minded individual perceives a Need because he holds his Desire to be constant and rates his Ability (what he can do) to achieve a Desire. As long he is unable to achieve his Desire, he will perceive a Need and attempt to use Reasoning and Reason to increase his Ability to achieve that Desire.

From the outside perspecitve, the Right Minded individual perceives a Should becuase he holds his Ability constant and rates his Desire (what he wants) to achieve a goal. As long as he is unable to want what he can achieve, he will perceive a Should and use Feeling and Emotion to increase his Desire to achieve his goal.

So it is clear that, although from an outside perspective Need and Should are identical inequities, the perception of them as being inequities of Ability or Desire depends upon which of those factors is held constant. Left Minded people will perceive Needs, Right Minded people will perceive Shoulds.

So a Need can be defined as something that is wanted but cannot be achieved, and a Should can be defined as something that can be achieved that isn't wanted.

Left Minded individuals not only perceive Needs, but perceive Shoulds as well. However, when they hold Desire as a constant, they are unable to clearly see Desire change. Therefore, when faced with with an inequity that requires their action or inaction to be against their desires, they feel an external limit on their abilities and perceive this as a should. So, a Left Minded individual will see Need as the internal motivation to act or not act, and Should as the external motivation to acot or not act.

The Right Minded individuals perceive Needs as well as Shoulds. However, when they hold Ability as a constant, they cannot clearly see Ability change. Therefore, when faced with an inequity that requires their action or inaction to be against their Desires, they feel an external limit on their desires and perceive this as a Need. So, a Right Minded individual will see Should as an internal motivation to act or not act, and Need as the external motivation to act or not act.

For Left Minded individuals, the external motivation to act or not act against his desires can only be brought into equity by changing his Desire. In effect, an internal inequity has been created between Ability and Desire on his sub-conscious side. In order to resolve this right side inequity, he must bring his desires in line with the use or non-use of his abilities, thereby changing (from the internal perspective) his sense of Self.

In other words, since all four elements are mutually altering, a Left Minded individual must change his Desire in order to change his Ability. If he has accepted the requirements of an external situation represented by and thereby "fixing" Thought and Knowledge to specific values that require him to set a value on Ability, the only variable he has left to balance the inequity is Desire. Desire,of course, is the variable he least understands, and represents for him his internal perspective of who he is. So, a Should, for a Left Minded individual, requires him to make changes in himself that he is least able to understand.

In summary, the Reasoning and Reason of a Left Minded individual have established a logical course of action that, once accepted, requires his Desire to change or inequity will continue to exist.

For Right Minded individuals, the external motivation to act or not act against his desires can only be brought into equity by changing his Ability. In effect,an internal inequity has been created between Ability and Desire on his conscious side. In order to resolve this right side inequity, he must bring his abilities in line with the existence or non-existence of his desires, thereby changing (from the internal perspective) his view of the universe.

As with the Left Minded individual, all four elements are mutually altering. When Right Minded individual has accepted the requirements of an external situation represented by and thereby "fixing" Thought and Knowledge to specific values that require him to set a value on Desire, the only variable he has left ot balance the inequity is Ability. Ability is the variable he least understands and represents for him the internal perspecitve of what he can do. So, a Need, for the Right Minded individual, requires him to make changes in himself that he is least able to understand.

In summary, the Reasoning and Reason of a Right Minded individual have established a logical course of action that, once accepted, requires his Ability to change or inequity will continue to exist.

In conclusion, when faced with an inequity an individual must choose between changing the universe or changing himself. To change the universe, he must DO. To change himself, he must BECOME. By DOing, the universe is altered and no longer creates inequity with the Self which has remained unchanged. By BECOMEing, his Self is altered and no longer creates inequity with the universe which has remained unchanged.

When changing the universe requires an increase in one's abilities, the Left Minded individual will perceive it as a Need. So even though he is changing a portion of himself (Ability), it is the portion that he can clearly understand and by changing it, changes both parts of the universe (Thought and Knowledge) to eliminate inequity.

When he is unable to change the universe through his abilities (which he clearly understands), the only remaining variable to change is Desire. So he will perceive the

When changing himself, the Left Minded individual will perceive it as a Should. So, the universe remains unchanged and he must change a portion of himself (Desire) as well.

If he changes the universe, he must employ his abilities which requires creating the desire to act. If he changes himself, he must alter his desire which requires creating the abiilty to Become. In this manner, he will strive either to

In conclusion, each individual, when faced with inequity, is motivated to resolve that inequity by changing an aspect of himself -- either his Ability or his Desire, or by changing the outside universe, or both. When the combination of change in Self and Universe fails to completely resolve the inequity, the inequity will remain until more change is made by one or the other or both. Either individual can accept the existence of this inequity and allow it to continue until his without his action the outside universe or his internal state (altered through observation) changes to resolve the inequity, OR he can take action to change the universe, himself, or both.

If he decides to change the outside universe through the use of his abilities against his desires, it is perceived as a Should. If he decides to change the outside universe

If he takes action to change the universe against his desires, it is perceived as a Should. If he takes action to change himself

When a left minded person is presented with a non-threatening choice between change or status quo, the first thing he will do is evaluate the Desire factors. Is this something I want to DO or BE? If the answer is NO, that's as far as it will go. The Ability factor will never even be addressed seriously.

If the answer is YES, the Ability factor will be determined. If there is a high ability factor, he
